Nicholas Basquiat Remix, Avivaa - XX

This remix from Australian producer Nicholas Basquiat melts seductive dreamscapes and electronic glistenings but the real reason it's so good is because it drags the maximum out of the song, celebrates the vocal and actually goes somewhere, building and layering like so many remixers seem reluctant (or too shit) to do. Free download.

Reid ft Slow Skies - Fractures

[ Record Of The Week ]

This has basically got everything; sysmic levels of bass, ethereal vocals, cool as shit ambience and a dance beat which doesn't sounds like every other house-by-numbers track out there. It's a Dublin dream team collaboration.

Georgia - Digits

[ Record Of The Week ]

Glitchy, electronic beats with an industrial kick, vocals reminiscent of a soulful Warpaint in a chemical whirlwind and enough odd-ball creativity to draw inevitable Jai Paul comparisons, London's Georgia is my new favourite thing in existence.

If like me you're late to the party then Be Ache is below. Acquaint yourself.

The production and snappy writing of previous tracks continues with Limitless but with this one they're flexing their charismatic vocals talents a little more. Completely on it.

Guest Post - Don't Need No Melody

Don't Need No Melody Mix | North American Scum

Chris was my first blog friend ever (ever!) when we started doing this around the same time last year, so a playlist swap is long overdue. And in the spirit of 4th of July weekend, I figured it’d be a good time to shed some light on a few lesser known US artists, most of whom are indie(pendent).

Initially, it was just gonna be garage bands and lo-fi bedroom projects (i.e. “scum," affectionately), but listening to Zack Sekoff this morning inspired me to add some producers into the mix, and now it’s just a combination of everything. All North American though.

In other words, it’s a bumpy ride, but hopefully you enjoy it anyway.

Johnny Lloyd - Pilgrims

Former frontman of the excellent Tribes, Johnny Lloyd's solo offering is a rich, low-fi, soulful breeze, thankfully not a shit faux-retro Duffy thing. All hail this guy.

Baked, Mick Jagger

[ Record Of The Week ]

An indie-rock, psych-pop trip from Brooklyn, Mick Jagger is definitely one of the tunes of the year so far. Creative, rich, subtle, dynamic, melodic, warm... one day this song and I are going to raise a family.

Baked's debut album Debt will be released August 19th, 2014 via Exploding In Sound Records on vinyl and digital. Pre-order info is on their bandcamp page.

Mile - Syrup

[ Hot New Stuff ]

If you don't like menacing, drone-beat hip hop by an Austrian rapper with traces of a Kanye-tinged ego and plenty of naughty words then for gods sake SORT YOUR SHIT OUT.
