Thunderbird Gerard, London Is A Bitch

After hearing London Is A Bitch tearing Xfm's airways apart last night courtesy of a John Kennedy session, I've been on a mission to share this tune. But can I find a studio version? Negative. Instead, we have this awesome, vibey live version of the track played out in Berlin, where NYC native Thunderbird Gerard is now based having not quite found his home in London on the path East.

Update, studio version now available. Dig in:

Rhodes, Always

Slip into a new week with this incredibly rich, melodic bit of hot stuff from Rhodes (the English singer, not the plate smashing place with white-washed buildings and a troubled economy). Stripped back, atmospheric and beautifully written and performed, Always is the perfect Monday soundtrack. (via MBBTYB)

Mount Kimbie, Made To Stray

Infectious, self assured, reflective and down right cheeky, Made To Stray is Mount Kimbie's latest alt-electro offering which builds and grows as you fall helplessly under it's warm yet twisted spell. By the time you get to the end of the 1990's screensaver of a video you'll wonder why it ever had to end.

Made To Stray is out now on Warp Records.

Ghost Loft, So High

I somehow forgot to post this a few weeks ago but it's definitely still worth sharing. D.E.E. favourites Ghost Loft inject sultry magnificence into their breathy, atmospheric head nodders which are so modestly brilliant I'd almost call them sly. Los Angeles has never sounded so cool.

So High is out now.

Prince Richard, GO

Check out Los Angeles emcee Prince Richard's tracks Go and Hear Me which show off the rap newcomer's talent for natural flow and poignant awareness of his surroundings. It's a good time to be making hip hop right now and this cat's got the right tools for the job.

YADi, Guillotine

More good stuff from hotly tipper Londoner YADi, who's decided to give away the percussive soul and soaring melodies of Guillotine for free. Hit up Soundcloud for for the free download before she changes her mind.

Stay Positive ft Cooly G, You Hate Me

If there's one person who you can count on for absolutely bang-on-the-money atmospheric house music right now it's Stay Positive. Another huge tune evoking memories of an underground rave you want back, You Hate Me features vocals from Hyperdub's leading lady Cooly G. If this doesn't ignite your day and have you clamouring for an all-nighter then you're a corpse.

You Hate Me is out now on Stay Positive Industries.

Coasts, Wallow

Bristol's Coasts follow up the excellent Ocean with another playlist-ready indie pop tune. Catchy, energetic, twinkly and fun, Wallow sets things up nicely ahead of the release of their debut album this summer.

Wallow is released on 20th May 2013 through Tidal Recordings.

Lana Del Rey, Young & Beautiful

This is Lana Del Rey's contribution to the star studded soundtrack to the forthcoming Baz Luhrmann film 'The Great Gatsby', which also includes new tracks from Jay Z and Florence And The Machine as well as Beyonce and Andre 3000's cover of Back to Black. It's typically cinematic, ethereal and classy and there's no need to worry about a sub-par effort being thrown onto a flick soundtrack, Young & Beautiful sits confidently along side her best work to date.

Young & Beautiful is out now through Interscope Records.

Young and Beautiful - The Great Gatsby (Music From Baz Luhrmann's Film) [Deluxe Edition]

SNAKEHIPS ft George Maple, On & On

North London producer Snakehips gets George Maple (Jess Higgs in real life, hence the very un-George like sounding vocals) in to feature on this drop-top summer cruise tune, mashing good time 90's R&B/trip hop vibes with some Jessie Wareism soul vocals. It's a beauty alright.

Childish Gambino, Think Of Me

Childish Gambino returns on Funkmaster Flex's latest mix tape with the Chemist produced Think Of Me, complete with pitched 808 kicks, dead-on-the-money production and Donald Glover's typically intelligent rhymes. Good to have him back.

Ghost Beach, Too Young (Penguin Prison Remix)

Strutting into the start of your week, Penguin Prison gets all excitable and bouncy on fellow NYC musicologists Ghost Beach's tropical grit pop tune Too Young and the result is cheeky, fun indie disco for 2013. Very nice start to your week, lucky you.

Daft Punk, Get Lucky

Fever pitch seemed to hit new heights this week as Daft Punk finally unveiled their new single, following what feels like an eternity of drip-teasing the music world. Get Lucky is a tight, summery, disco enthused bit of signature slick electro-pop and features Nile Rogers' sweet guitar licks and Pharrell's impossibly cool falsetto vocals.

Get Lucky is out now through Columbia. New album Random Access Memories will land on 17th May.

London Grammar, Wasting My Young Years

Warm, rich, melodic pop ballads like this are hammering London Grammar's claims for the UK's hottest rising artist tag and with the level of consistency they've shown thus far their album should be a cracker. Check out previous releases Metal & Dust and Hey Now too.

Josef Salvat, Hustler

London based Australian Josef Salvat's first single This Life excited press bods and DJ's alike and second release Hustler is a clean, soulful pop tune with a darker underbelly which has already scored the lad a number one on the hype machine.

Hustler is out now on Sticky Lips Music.

Hustler - Single - Josef Salvat

Flume, Left Alone (Ta-Ku Remix)

What can possibly be better than tribal drums, drops like the grand canyon, shuddering bass and pitch warping vocals? Perth's soulful future beatsmith Ta-Ku gets medieval on Flume's ass. For the excellent original, bring your clickage right here.

Rihanna, Stay (Marius Horsturz Remix)

German beatmaker Marius Horsturz drops a chilled remix of Rihanna and Mikky Ekko's Stay in an ambient, moody atmospheric vibe which will compel you to nod your noggin and wiggle your money maker. Hit buy on the player for your free music fix.

All About She ft V V Brown, Bullet

After having a couple of years of studio time and putting a record label together, VV Brown returns with a darker than expected house collaboration with electro soul producers All About She ahead of an album release in September.

Bullet is out on 28th April 2013 through Disturbing London Records.

Rudimental ft MNEK and Sinead Harnett, Baby

Rudimental probably just soundtracked the summer. Garage undertones usually make me sick in my mouth but the shuffle on this is perfect, the bass in the chorus is tummy rumbling and the soulful vocals are bang on. So, so good.

Baby (Feat. MNEK & Sinead Harnett) - Waiting All Night - EP

Fe, Let It Go

Deliberately cheap looking videos, strong aesthetic awareness and a very limited amount of information have lead to several hushed comparisons between London's Fe and Lana Del Rey's early rumblings. The reflective and dreamy Let It Go is another reason and one which suggests she's one to watch. (via)

The Neighbourhood, I Love You

One of the best new bands of the last couple of years finally release their hotly anticipated debut album I Love You on 23rd April 2013 and the drip feed of top quality atmospheric hip hop inspired indie pop singles, such as Let It Go, Sweater Weather and Female Robbery has done nothing but fuel the excitement. Soaring, rich textures, ghostly ambience, brooding confidence, tasteful creativity and an incredible talent for melody gives the Los Angeles black and white enthusiasts one of the best albums of the year so far. Stunning.

The album was premiered by Rolling Stone and is available to stream and pre order right here.

I Love You. - The Neighbourhood

Poliça ft Justin Vernon, Tiff

Minnesota's Poliça return with more of their trademark soulful and ambient indie R&B, this time featuring lush vocals from Bon Iver's Justin Vernon. Their second album is due out later in the year and let's hope the moody majesty of Tiff if a sign of things to come.

Tiff is out now on Memphis Industries.

Hijacked, Live

Hijacked by Hijacker Records

Friday 12th April

Von Zigfrid Underbelly, Hoxton Square, London

I found myself in one of the trendier parts on London on friday night to check out the first London club night thrown by Hijacker Records, whose roster crammed into a packed (and I mean wall-to-wall rammed), sweaty basement club to flex the label's range of electronic acts and recent releases.

Not your average club night, things started with a screening of a short film about the festival the label hosted last year (which is also going on this year - more info here) and the video for recent Santiago Street Machine release, Holes. Deep house duo (with live drums, bonus) Capes and Shudders kicked the live bill off, followed by the energetic (and sweaty) Santiago Street Machine.

Party electro, house, and hip hop thrown out by Chopper and RedSparrow carried the rest of the night, dropping some huuuuuuuge beats, drops and bass for the up-all-night crew. One of Choppers cuts was his recently released double A-side which is out now.

Freaky Naughty - Single - Chopper

Enough waffle, this needs a conclusion: If you want something done right do it yourself. What seems to be essentially a group of musicians who want to do gigs, festivals and release records got together and sorted out the whole shebang. DIY music take note.

Jai Paul, Jai Paul (album)

Jai Paul's built up an almost cult like following on the strength of two amazing demos on his soundcloud page and last night he took the world by surprise and dropped his debut album. Packed with trademark soft vox/R&B/dance/bass/glitch/sample laden nuggets, swollen with creativity and individuality it's already one of 2013 must hear albums. Jasmine features, as does BTSTU, the track which first convinced XL Records to invest back in 2010.

Stream and buy below. Now.

The Adelines, Alleyways

The Adelines make sun drenched indie pop from Swansea. They're named after their neighbours cat and Alleyways is out on 6th May through Kissability Records.

Frank Ocean, Lost

One of the standout tracks from the incredible channel ORANGE and one of the best songs of 2012, Frank Ocean's Lost has now got a cute tour footage video. I'm not sure if there are plans to release it as a single but nobody needs a reason to get immersed in this track.

Lost - Channel ORANGE

Big Gigantic, Can I get A... (Jay Z Remix)

Colorado's producer/drummer duo Big Gigantic get impressive on the remix of hov's Can i Get A... Free, right here.

Foxes, Beauty Queen

Sounding like a cinematicly romantic cross between Lana Del Rey and Marina and the Diamonds, Southampton via London lady Foxes drops new single Beauty Queen through Neon Gold Records on 12th May and had one of her friends knock together a fitting video. Great pop music, clever and rich and warm and I WANT MORE OF THIS.

Warrior - EP - Foxes

Young Wonder ft Sacred Animals, Time

Tracks like this are the reason you start a music blog. Cork's Young Wonder have featured here before but with new single Time they've hit new heights. Teaming up with Sacred Animals paid off in a big way, delivering vocal contrast to match the biggest drums and the fattest bass the electro-pop could muster to make people notice. VERY exciting prospect, 100% mega tune.

Young Wonder

Jacques Greene & Tinashe, Painted Faces

The YoursTruly series, which throws a couple of artists into a studio for a day to make a new track from scratch has already spawned this brilliant Shlohmo - Jeremih track.. Now you can add under-rated (not in my town though) LA singer Tinashe and Canadian producer Jacques Greene's to this impressive collaboration list. A really good days work. Stream the track below, check out the days events below.

TNGHT, Acrylics

Drops galore, bonkers beats and mystical production, TNGHT's latest club shaker doesn't disappoint.

Acrylics is out now on Warp Records.

QOTSA, My God Is The Sun

The best rock band in the world are back with a snarling diamond of a new track which encompasses everything that's great about them. Thank god. Queens Of The Stone Age, where the hell have you been?

BANKS, Fall Over (Djemba Djemba Remix)

BANKS' Fall Over gets an absolute going over by LA's Djemba Djemba, who really went to town with this monster mash-up. Surely the biggest trap remix of the year, the sweet break downs and atomic drops could not be more of a contrast. And you can get it all over your face for free. T.U.N.E.

Trampy ft Danny Brown, Express Yourself

Firey, heavy and biiiiiig club sounding hip hop, Danny Brown is on an excitable mission with this insane beat from NYC producer Trampy. Inspired by a viral hashtag started by Diplo, #ExpressYourself is the latest in a string of tracks dropped in the build up to Brown's album, which is expected to land around late summer time. Throw the right gang sign (facebook like) at Trampy and you can even get free ravioli (download) from his food cart (website). Do that here.

Beatrice Eli, It's Over

Sweden's pop nous strikes again, this time Beatrice Eli, with her remarkable vocal similarity to Amy Winehouse brings a vintage soul approach to a modern, sparklingly produced electro-pop-R&B track.

It's Over is out now on Razzia/Family Tree Music AB/EMI.
