Sky Ferriera, Everything Is Embarrassing (Krystal Klear remix)

Sky Ferriera's 'Everything Is Embarrassing' was featured here many moons ago and was one of 2012's best songs, officially.

Now Manchester producer Krystal Klear has had is house loving party inducing fingers all over it.

Jake Hart - Awake

Jake Hart is a South London musician and producer taking melodic and subtle guitar licks into his world of minimal electronica. Bags of athmosphere house the haunting vocals and glitchy, percussive beats. First shared this over 18 months ago but it's so good you're getting another nudge. Stunningly refreshing track.

Darkstar, Amplified Ease

If you've not already done so you can stream Darkstar's new album, 'News From Nowhere' in full from their website here and lots of people are quite rightly getting excited about it. It twists, shuffles, warps and morphs with experimental soundscaping, hypnotic rhythms and twisted yet strangely soothing vocals throughout. Timeaway will also feature on the album and check out Amplified Ease's aptly experimental video with underwater weirdness.

The album 'News From Nowhere' is out on 4th February on Warp Records, pre-order here.

News From Nowhere - Darkstar

The Black & The White, Future

Julio and Cliff from the fantastic As Tall As Lions have started another band Called The Black & The White and Future suggests they've taken some of the elements that made their former band so good. Solid songwriting, strong melodies and a bunch of creativity added to bits of production trickery and electronica influence. Pop music at it's imaginative finest.

hot new stuff // Leibniz, in der bar

22 year old Leipzig resident Leibniz is taking his production skills out of Germany and into the trendiest, most over-priced and poorly lit night spots in Shoreditch and the Meat Packing district. His soundcloud is interesting; some trance, some hip hop (see Young Jeezy below a for free download) and some ambient yet strutting deep house such as 'in der bar'. House piano drops and pulsing beats build the atmosphere to heady heights. Very tidy indeed.

Daughter, Still

Daughter's magnificently sombre 'Smother' featured here at the start of the month and as our excitement for the long awaited release of their debut album 'If You Leave' grows (pre order here), this dark and oh-so-sad video for the equally beautiful 'Still' has just been put out there. Great song, perfectly fitting video.

Still is out now through 4AD and Glassnote.

If You Leave - Daughter

Bastille, Bad Blood (Lunice Remix)

Bastille are a really good new indie dance band and Bad Blood is probably their best song so far but I just can't get beyond this Lunice remix. It's so entrancing and hypnotic with the acapella intro and the looping and layering of the harmonies throughout, making the most of the velcro melodies. Stream below, buy here.

The album Bad Blood is out on 1st March 2013 on Virgin Records.

Bad Blood - Bastille

hot new stuff // Raider Of Arks - Indiana

Is she called Raider Of Arks or Indiana? Hell I don't know. Maybe having two names is the 2013 version of 'the'.../numbers in the name/no vowels in the name/not having a name because you're so mysterious... whatever. I like Nottingham's new lady singer and I like this song.

Bound is dark pop. A really fed up and twisted Ellie Goulding is somewhere close to the vibe. She plays Old St Pancras Church on 14th March (thanks to breakingmorewaves).

Jakwob ft Maiday, Fade

He's built up a solid reputation for remixes but London based producer James Jacob, Jakwob to you and I, is more than a go-to guy for a sub-heavy dubstep remix tag and the funky breakbeat of Fade may be a deliberate move along those lines.

Fade is released on 15th March and features Maiday's lovely voice.

There's a free download of Detox below too. A trap-y instrumental you can head nod and skank to for almost four minutes (unless you're really handy with the repeat button).
Fade (feat. Maiday) - EP - Jakwob

MS MR, Fantasy

New York duo MS MR are set to release their debut album on 14th May and describe themselves as Tumblr Glitch Pop, Soul Fuzz, Electroshock which I think is quite nice.

Fantasy is the first single to come from the album. It's big, well produced and the percussive drumming and driving hand-claps will inevitably draw comparisons to Florence and The Machine, Bat For Lashes and Nikki and The Dove.

Really strong melodic vocals from MS, groove filled electro tinged music from MR, Hurricane is a slightly more chilled track to check out too.

Kendrick Lamar, Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe (Kill Them With Colour remix)

We all know who Kendrick Lamar is so I can get away with an even shorter write up than usual here.

One of the most exciting and talented rappers to come out of this solar system in the last decade is now remixed by Toronto's wonderfully named Kill Them With Colour

Kendrick Lamar

Just Blaze & Baauer, Higher

Trap's relentless post-dubstep rampage continues and with beats as heavy and bass as low as this, it has every right to.

Featuring samples of Jay Z name dropping the creators, this super trap-hop collaboration between Just Blaze and Baauer will make you love half time beats all over again.

Coasts, Oceans

Based out of Bristol, British indie-disco band Coasts make catchy, energetic pop music with spacious, echoing drums, twinking guitars and soaring melodies. They probably get compared to Foals all the time although the vocal, anthemic chorus and structures are more in Fenech Soler's ball park. They also have a pretty video.

Oceans is released on 25th February 2013 through Tidal Recordings.

Oceans - Single - Coasts

Sivu, Better man than he

24 year old singer songwriter Sivu originates from Cambridge, England and he sounds a bit like a more subtly electronic, reflectively mournful Wild Beasts. Sivu has a couple of solid connections; his producer Charlie Andrew produced Mercury prize winning An Awesome Wave for Alt J whilst his flatmate Adam Powell has produced videos for Dot Rotten and Example. Powell is responsible for the stunning video below, filmed on an actual MRI scanner in a hospital (thanks to our friends at

'Better man than he' is released on 25th Feburary 2013 on ASL Recordings.

hot new stuff // Twelve28 Da Great ft Olivia

Twelve28 Da Great is a brand new emcee hailing from New York City, Staten Island to be precise. His style is soulful gospel infused Hip Hop and it'll be interesting to see how the 20 year old develops, this track featuring Olivia shows promise. One to keep a cheeky eye on in 2013.

Joey Bada$$, Unorthodox

Joey Bada$$ featured in our tips for 2013 and his 1999 mixtape was a free music friday // download a couple of weeks ago. Now you can get your greasy mitts on Unorthodox, a typically warm, boom-pap slice of Bada$$'s signature 1990's NYC rap revival style. The first track for Mountain Dew's Green Label Sound, Orthadox paired the teenage Brooklyn rapper with hip hop royalty DJ Premier. Download for free below.

Joey Bada$$

hot new stuff // Teen Commandments

Williamsburg Duo Teen Commandments are Brett Moses and Nick LaGrasta and they make fuzzy retro synth pop which would sound very at home soundtracking a sylish Ryan Gosling film about an LA stuntman turned getaway driver.

Very stylish and very comfortable rocking pink artwork, the band have an EP launch at Cameo Gallery in Brooklyn this friday. Check them out below and get yourself there for some hand-painted sleeves.

Milo Greene, 1957

1957 has one of the warmest, sweetest melodic hooks you're likely to hear for a bloody long time. Los Angeles five piece Milo Greene are one for fans of Arcade Fire and Of Monsters And Men, a sublime bit of ethereal indie pop.

1957 is available now on Fierce Panda.
1957 - Single - Milo Greene

Disclosure ft AlunaGeorge, White Noise

Two of the most talked about, tipped and exciting purveyors of new music team up for a bouncy piece of future-pop which is an early contender for pop song of the year. Disclosure's forward thinking, effortless deep house combined with the cooly soulful vocal we've come to expect from AlunaGeorge's Aluna Francis, this is going to be huge.

'White Noise' comes out on 24th March through PMR.

Scratch Massive ft Koudlam, Waiting for a sign

The dark, warped, apocalyptic feel of 'Waiting for a sign' are brutally realised by this breath taking video. The track is a steady head nodder; hooky, intelligent and evoking references to The Presets on a come down. Well worth a look at the video, which shows a group of tribal children roaming distant lands in slow motion, beautifully shot.

'Waiting for a sign' by Paris duo Scratch Massive is available now on Pschent Music.
Waiting for a Sign (feat. Koudlam) - Nuit de rêve

Young Wonder, Orange

Irish electro-pop duo Young Wonder are dropping little pop gems all over the place and 'Orange' is my fav. Featuring jittery, chopped up vocals, big solid beats, synth surges, pitch mashing fiddles and other such production play things 'Orange' was the first track to come out of their Cork base. More please.
Orange - Young Wonder

Lion Babe, Treat Me Like Fire

NYC's electro soul duo Lion Babe's 'Treat Me Like Fire' is perfect for fans of Beyonce, Solange and Kelis. The soulful beat evokes Motown imagery whilst the production manages to be warm and silky without losing an electronic edge.

Video below, free download here.

Tinashe, In Case We Die

Tinashe sounds a bit like Lana Del Ray but with enough attitude to power Jay Z's business empire. Speaking of Hova, L.A. based Tinashe sounds like the one that got away from Roc Nation; she can sing, she can move, she can cut heads off teddy bears and she can keep enough tension in a very slow song to keep you hooked until the end.

'In Case We Die' is available to download for free here and features BOSS.

It comes as no surprise that Ryan Hemsworth's had his hands all over this. Oh, and he's killed it again.

Lil Silva & Banks, Work

British producer Lil Silva has put together a dark, jarred, grime infested tune with American singer Banks. No, it's not Katy B. Nice disorientating video too.
Lil Silva

Flume ft. Chet Faker, Left Alone

Flume is a real talent, and the young Sydney beatmaker's 'Sleepless' featured here a couple of moths back. Harley Streten to his mother, Flume  makes engaging, intricate yet ambient electronic music, 'Left Alone' features the soulful vocals of Chet Faker.

'Left Alone' is taken from the album 'Flume' and is available now through Transgressive Records.
Left Alone (feat. Chet Faker) - Flume

Shlohmo, Later

L.A. beatmaker Shlohmo releases is 'Laid Out' EP ON 5th March on Friends of Friends and WEDIDIT and 'Later' is the first single taken from it. This plush track features warped, dimly lit RnB with an intense frenzy of hats and a distorted shrill of a free reign vocal.

Henry Laufer's solo work was always likely to be interesting, being a visual artist turned self taught musician. He seems to be firmly on the right side of interesting, i.e. good.

A$AP Rocky, Long.Live.A$AP Bear//Face Remix

Since the music world is now completely obsessed with A$AP's recent album release (and it's deliberate leak last month) it would be rude not to congratulate the Harlem emcee, and I'm not rude. But let's also appreciate the finer things in life and Bear//Face has a deep, heavy remix which needs blasting. Get into it:

Josef Salvat, This Life

London's Josef Salvat only has this one song available right now and already the PR machine is working overtime. Still, it's very good. Minimal production, steady burner, deep rumbly bass, good song, big hooky chorus, similar vibes to Mikky Ekko really. Maybe this won't be the year of the frontwoman after all...

Bondax, Gold

Bondax are a teenage duo from Lancaster in the North West of England who have been gaining momentum with their ambient, warm, relaxed take on dance. Somewhere between house and chillwave? This track features soulful vocals from Joe Janiak, deeeeeep bass and a ringing endorsement from this guy.

'Gold' comes out on 27th January 2013 on Justus/Relentless Records.

free music friday // Dan Croll (SertOne Remix)

'From Nowhere' was featured on here a few months ago and I just came across this steady strut of a remix from Northern Irish beatmaker SertOne.

MØ, Pilgrim

Damn you Scandinavia, with your endless stream of intelligent electronic infused pop music. Danish MØ has a name I like because it must cause so much keyboard confusion the world over; where the hell is your Ø key? Her music I also like; soulfully melodic majesty, brass riffs, a laid back beat, tastefully glitchy production and handclaps. File somewhere between Bat For Lashes, Grimes, AlunaGeorge and Lykke Li.

MØ's debut album is due out some time in 2013. Eye's peeled.
